NASTE 2007 Race Results:

The September 30 season opener at Rapid Raceway initiated the NASTE 2007 Racing Season. The first 1/24 IROC style race using the NASTE 55 ChevROC cars built by Bryan Trachsel was a complete success! If I had to try to describe what these cars are like to race, I'd have to say they are as close to 1/24th scale T-Jets as you can get! 13 racers abused each car, and each car endured over an hour of hard run time. There were only two minor issues where the crown gears loosened up. These were quickly and easily repaired by Bryan in NASCAR Pit style and speed! The cars suffered no damage, but they did gain some paint beautification! The racing itself proved to be very competitive and close! Only .8 second separated the 13 racer's fastest laps. Dave Smith scored the first win of the season by driving smoothly and consistantly. This is going to be a great year! ---------Bill

October 14 - Autumn Hills Raceway - New track - GREAT race! Two races in the books now. Monte and Victoria put on a great race for the second stop of the NASTE 2007 Point Series. Their Scalextric track is fully landscaped and makes for a great racing experience. Everyone was impressed with the track! And the food............EXCELLENT!!! Oh yeah, the race. The Ninco Porsche 356s Monte had prepped for the IROC style race worked flawlessly. They were stock non-magnet traction type cars which made for some very exciting racing. For the second round of heats SCX 4 wheel drive Rally type cars were raced. They were also stock, but featured magnetic traction, and headlights & tailights. Oh, did I mention we raced them in the dark?! There were 16 racers present. The racing was very close! Less than 4 laps separated the top eight spots. Byron Stumman set the fast mark of the night turning 22 laps with one of the Rally cars! And luckily, no one injured Stuart Little as he paddled accross the lake. NASTE racers were well represented by Bryan Trachsel at the OSCAR Sportsman Race. The race was held at Electron Raceway in Roseburg on Saturday October 21. This was Bryan's first race on the new track, and the caliber of racers was high! Bryan posted an impressive fourth place finish, less than one lap from a podium spot and the "hardware". Way to go Bryan!! Rich Vecchio put on a great race! The new track was excellent! OSCAR racers commented on it being one of the best racing circuits they have raced on. Rich and his wife also provided an excellent meal for all the racers. As usual the Halloween Race run on Jeff Courtney's NASTE 3 Track was a blast! Halloween theme cars made up a field of nine. It was the last official NASTE race on the 1/24 scale 5 lane track, the last of the original NASTE Tracks. No one broke the rules (there are none) and the racing was wild. Heats were run under black lights and in total darkness. Bryan Trachsel was the eventual winner. See the photos in "Even More Photos". Mineral Springs Raceway was the location for the third points race of the NASTE 2007 racing season on November 11th. It was a great event with 20 racers showing up to run the 1/43rd scale cars. NASTE racers saw the welcomed return of Hugh Beck and Robby T., as well as two new racers Bill and Michelle Pearson. Dave's routed 3 lane non-magnetic track is a perfect venue for the 1/43rd scale Artin cars. With a little massaging by Dave, these cars handle very well. This is by far the best low-buck racing on the planet! Thanks Dave and Esther for an excellent race and great food!

The first NASTE IROC Race held at Checkered Flag Raceway in Aurora was exciting..............to say the least! On Saturday December 2nd, 18 racers battled through two rounds of 3 minute heats. The racing was close, but most of all it was extremely FUN!!! The 1/24 scale NASTE IROC cars held up well to the punishment. Only one crown gear was sacrificed during the entire race. To date the 4 NASTE IROC '55 Chevys have logged 5,761 racing laps! Not even taking into account all the practice laps, that's an average of 1,440 RACE laps for each car, without breakage (only 1 crown gear replaced on 1 car). Bryan Trachsel built these cars tough, and on Saturday he raced tough to take the win! Thanks to Bob McFarland for hosting the race, and to the PASER Club for their patience in our schedule over-run.

NASTE IROC HO Firebirds in Fairview on Dec. 9th. Johnny Lightning Magna-Traction chassis were used beneath Aurora Firebird bodies for the fifth IROC race of the NASTE 2007 Season. The race consisted of two rounds of 3 minute heats. Racers used their best round of the two to establish their finish positions. John Bostic visited with the NASTE group, and then showed us he still has it by posting the win. Thanks to everyone that showed up! And congrat's to John on his win!

NASTE Race No.6 was another great event held at Autumn Springs Raceway in Hillsboro! Eleven racers attacked the Scalextric road course in pursuit of a win. In the end it was Byron Stumman at the checked flag. Byron ran an impressive race to score his first win of the season. Welcome to newcomer Kevin Lovings who showed he had some slot car racing skills in this, his first race with the NASTE group. Thanks to Monte & Victoria for another excellent race and excellent refreshments!

Marshal Field Raceway was the site for the seventh NASTE IROC Race. Randy and Byron Stumman have constructed a beautiful 4 lane Scalextric layout. This was the track's inagural race with the NASTE group. The track and cars withstood all the punishment the NASTE racers could dish out. We welcomed 5 new racers at this event, John, Charlie, Ramon, Myrna, and Tylar. It was a very close race with Dave Smith squeeking out the win. First through third were all on the same lap, and just 3 laps separated first from seventh! What a race! Thanks to Randy, Mryna, and Byron Stumman for the great race and refreshments!

Race no.8 was Vintage Trans-Am at Mineral Springs Raceway in Carlton. 13 racers turned out for the 1/43rd scale IROC race. Dave Smith raced to the win over Larry Cockerham, with Terry Abbott in the third spot. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, but I was told the racing was excellent, and the food spread put out by Esther was great! Congratulations to Randy Stumman on his first NASTE Race win! Randy Stumman ran a great race to take the win at Rapid Raceway on February 24, 2007. The '55 Chevy IROC cars provided very close racing between the 19 competitors. A mere 5 laps separated first place from eleventh. 16 of the 19 racer's fastest laps were in the 7.0 to 7.5 second range. Thanks to Howie for his hospitality and great track!

The NASTE IROC '55 Chevys were on the track for the last time in the NASTE 2007 Season. The racing was very close with lots of bumping and lead changes. After two rounds of racing Bryan Trachsel was the winner. Thanks to Bob McFarland for opening his track early to the NASTE gang!

NASTE Goes "Old School" in Fairview - Evidentally computers do not respond well to being dropped upside-down (even Monte couldn't save her!). Do to that fact the NASTE race held in Fairview was scored by a vintage BSRT lap counter and photo developing timer. Racers ran two rounds of 3 minute heats. Their best round of the two determined their finish position. Ties, which there were six, were broken by two run-off rounds. The run-off rounds were one minute heats, which proved to be very exciting! In the end it was Terry Abbott taking the win by driving a flawless run-off round! Get ready for the final race in Carlton on April 21st!

Today, 4/11/07, I rechecked and corrected the point totals for the NASTE 2007 Season. The "Standings" page reflects the correct totals. Thank you Monte (my math sucks)!

Mineral Springs Raceway was the location for the last points race of the NASTE 2007 racing season on April 21st. 11 racers showed up anticipating a 1/43rd scale car race. A last minute substitute brought three Fiat Abarth's in 1/32 scale to the start line. The racing was very close, I mean REALLY close! The 1/32 scale cars were a blast on Dave's excellent 1/43rd scale routed track! Congrat's to Dave on his win securing first place in the 2007 NASTE Championship! Thanks Dave for another excellent race and great food!
