Class Specifications

Jalopy:

Scale: HO

Bodies: Aurora Thunderjet 500, Johnny Lighting Thunderjet 500, or Model Motoring Willys coupe. Bodies may be trimmed for tire clearance and to resemble early "dirt track" race cars.

Chassis: Original Aurora Thunderjet 500 or Model Motoring chassis only (Tough Ones or Wild Ones not allowed). Chassis must remain stock - stock gear ratios - NO alterations or modifications to the chassis or running gear. Maximum overall width of 1 1/4 inches front & rear (measured at the outside edge of wheel rims/tires). Any wheel/axle combination may be used front & rear.

Sportsman:

Scale: 1/24, Revell or Monogram only.

Years: 1968 to 1972

Bodies: Chevrolet (Chevelle), Pontiac (GTO), Oldsmobile (Cutless), Buick (Skylark GSX).

Driver: Injection molded, resin cast, vacuformed.

Body Height: Configuration and roofline must be production (kit) stock.

Special Requirements: (1) Chassis must be a (rattle chassis) No hinges, pockets or floppy pans (Bob Hanna design or EXACT copy - No modifications). (2)Axles must be 1/8" front & rear (No ball bearings allowed). (3) Front tires must be 7/8" dia. X 1/2" minimum width. (4) Rear tires must be 1" dia. X .800" wide. (5) Tires must be (foam) Pro Track front tires part #227, 226 or Parma 699J. (6) Only a front windshield is required (may be plastic or realistic screen). (7) Only 48 pitch gears are to be used.

Tire Track: A maximum width of 3.250" is allowed for front and rear.

Modifications: Front and rear wheelwells may be radiused for tire clearance.

Motors: Parma sealed Deathstar 16D Part #501.

Early Sportsman:

Scale: 1/24

Bodies: '49 thru '57 1/24th american iron, full size car (no T-Birds, Corvettes, or convertables, etc.). Must have front and rear bumpers (if kit doesn't come with one, make one out of plastic or use a bumper from another kit. Bumpers cannot be wider than the body by more than 1/8" on each side). Car must have a grill. If you run no hood, a radiator and engine must be installed in the engine bay. Wheel wells can be cut for tire clearance. Body must remain stock out of the box, no chopping or sectioning. Coupe or sedan bodies only. Screen or windshields must be installed. No side or rear windows. Must have full driver tray and driver figure (lexan or resin cast is OK).

Guide Flag: May stick out from some bodies, but we are using spec dimension Sportsman/Econo Car Chassis with no alterations (if they stick out - so be it).

Gears: 48 pitch plastic - as per Sportsman Class rules.

Tires: Follow Sportsman Class rules.

Axles: Follow Sportsman Class rules.

Motor: Follow Sportsman Class rules.

All other rules not covered here - refer to rules for the Sportsman Class.

*NOTE: Some 1/25th bodies may fit, as they are not always true to scale. If you wish to race a 1/25th body, and it fits the chassis without stretching it more than 1/4", and the wheelbase is within 1/4" from center of the wheelwells, it must be approved by the committee at Rapid Raceway. I will list the 1/25th scale bodies that meet approval here.

AMT '49 Mercury.

Monogram '55, '56, & '57 Chevrolet hardtops.

NASTE Vintage Modified 1/24:

This class is designed to replicate the slot cars of the early 60's. These are "low tech" easy to build cars. This keeps the competition close, and the racing exciting!

- Chassis shall be constructed of tubing and or solid rod. Chassis shall be of a design using two side, or main frame rails (i.e. a "real" car's frame). Chassis shall not have "pans" of any type (i.e. brass "handling" pans attached to, or used as the chassis). Chassis shall have NO hinged or moving parts.

- Chassis shall be of "inline" motor configuration.

- Maximum overall width of car shall not exceed 3 1/4".

-Wheelbase must be between 4 1/4" - 4 3/8".

- Axles must be mounted solidly, no suspension allowed.

- Minimum clearance from lowest point of chassis to track surface is .032”.

- Must use Radio Shack brand motor, 9 - 18 volt 24,000 rpm only! Part number for this motor is 273-256. No modifications are allowed!

- Must use front tires and wheels from a 1/24 or 1/25 scale model car.

- Must use injection molded, hard plastic model car body, 1/24 or 1/25 scale. Body must be of "pre-WWII" vintage (pre-1942). Use of fenders is optional, but discouraged!

- Use of Driver Figure is encouraged.

- Rear tires: This class will utilze two different types of tires. The type of tire used at a particular race will depend on the track surface and the track director's preference. Tire Rule "A" - Rear tires must be RC model airplane type "hard rubber". Rear tires must have a minimum height or diameter of 1”. Tire Rule "B" - Rear tires must be sponge, foam, or natural rubber type. Rear tires must have a minimum height or diameter of 1”. For tire rules "A" & "B" the maximum tire width, at point of contact to track surface is 1/2”.

1/24 Amateur LMP:

-Motor: (1).Only JK "Falcon" motor is allowed. (2). No modifications are allowed. (3). Motor may be soldered into chassis.

-Chassis: (1). Only mass-produced 4" "Flexi" syyle chassis is allowed. (2). Pin tubes may be added and chassis may be braced. (3). Only bushings allowed - no bearings. (4). Pan movement may be increased or restricted. (5). Front wheel towers may be trimmed for lead wire clearance. Front axle is not required. (6). Front wheels must be at least 1/2 inch (.500") diameter. (7). No light-weight pans allowed. (8). Rear tire width may not exceed .810". (9). No other modifications allowed.

-Bodies: (1). Only JK GT1 or Prototype LMP bodies are allowed for amateur racing.

NASTE Chassis 1/24:

This class was created for racing on short, routered tracks used in club or home type racing. These cars respond and act very much like the early Aurora Thunderjet 500 HO scale cars, only these cars are 1/24 scale. These cars are not extremely fast, but they allow for some very competitive and extremely fun racing! The rules governing this class are as follows:

- Chassis is to be flat pan type solid chassis. No hinges or movement of chassis allowed.
- Chassis pan pieces shall be made of brass flat stock, and shall not exceed a thickness of .064”.
- Chassis shall be of inline motor configuration.
- Maximum chassis width shall not exceed 3 1/8”.
- Wheelbase shall be 4 ½”.
- Axles must be mounted solidly, no suspension allowed.
- Minimum clearance from lowest point of chassis to track surface is .032”.
- Must use Radio Shack brand motor, 9 - 18 volt 24,000 rpm only! Part number for this motor is 273-256. No modifications are allowed!
- Must use 10 tooth motor pinion gear.
- Axle crown gear must be 39, 40, or 41 tooth only.
- Rear tires must be RC model airplane type "hard rubber". Rear tires must have a minimum height or diameter of 1”.
- Maximum tire width, at point of contact to track surface is 1/2”.
- Must use front tires and wheels from a 1/24 or 1/25 scale model car. Front wheels and tires should fit or be specific to the body used on chassis.
- Must use injection molded, hard plastic model car body, 1/24 or 1/25 scale.
- Body style will change from race season to race season to make this class flexible and provide variety. Check current schedule for body selection.
- Overall car width shall not exceed 3 1/4”.
- Complete race ready car must weigh in between 220 and 290 grams.
- Use of Driver Figure is encouraged.

Legends Chassis 1/24:

This class was also developed for shorter type home and club tracks.

- Chassis shall be constructed of brass flat stock and/or tubing. Flat stock shall not exceed .064” thickness.
- Chassis must be solid construction, no hinges or suspension.
- The position of the guide flag pivot in relationship to the rear axle shall not exceed 3 3/8”. (Guide flag pivot point cannot be more than 3 ½” ahead of the rear axle).
- Maximum rear tire width is 5/8".

- Must use HO scale, can type motor, such as used in older Tyco Pro type HO scale slot cars. (Mabuchi steel silver can, white endbell).
- Must use 1/32 scale lexan legends race car type body. (I.E. these bodies are designed for 1/32 Parma Womp cars. Bodies are 1930’s era cars). These bodies fairly accurately replicate the Legends series race cars in 1/24th scale.
- Overall car width shall not exceed 2 7/8”.
- Overall car length shall not exceed 5 1/4”.

“F” CLASS 1/24:

This is a “box stock” class.

- Must use a stock, over the counter, production type chassis. (I.E. Parma Flexi, Champion, Slot Works, 2 piece type chassis).
- Wheelbase must be 4”.
- Rear axle section of chassis may be braced.
- Body mounting tubes may be added.
- No other chassis modifications allowed.
- Must use stock 16D motor, NO super 16D motors allowed. NO motor modifications are allowed.
- Must have minimum clearance of .055” between lowest point of chassis and track surface. This also applies to bottom of axle spur gear.
- Body style will vary from race season to race season. For the 2003 season, Can Am, GTP, and endurance racing type bodies will be used.

(2) Axles must be 1/8" front & rear (no ball bearings allowed). (3) Front tires must be 7/8" dia. x 1/2" minimum width. (4) Rear tires must be 1" dia. x .800"wide. (5) Tires must be (foam) Pro Track front tires part # 227, 226 or Parma 699J. (6) Only a front windshield is required (may be plastic or realistic screen). (7) Only 48 pitch gears are to be used.

Rapid Raceway's "Hot Rod" Class:

Scale: 1/24

Bodies: '32 - '48 coupes or sedans only (no convertables). Bodies must remain stock out of the box. No chopped or sectioned bodies. You may cut out the "B" pillars as per 1:1 cars (race) of the era. No cutting of the body for tire clearance. May run rear fenders as long as at least 1/4" of tire is exposed on each side. Fenders can be cut to taste. No front fenders or runningboards. Run screen for front window. No side or rear window. Must have full driver tray. Driver must be old type made of plastic. May cut out and make your own firewall, must be solid material and painted. Must have a scale motor up front. Can use top half of hood from firewall to radiator or grill. Radiator or grill must be in place. May have a rear bumper made out of piano wire or whatever, but must not stick out from body more than 3/8". Front bumper can reach out to protect guide flag. Side bumpers cannot stick out beyond the tires if you choose to install them. Numbers must be in place on each side and at least 1/2" high. Bumpers cannot be over 3 1/4" wide, same as the track.

Chassis: Guide flag cannot stick out further than .800" from center of axle to center of guide flag post. Other than that, follow Sportsman Class rules.

Motor: Parma sealed Super 16D.

Tires: Follow Sportsman Class rules.

Gears: Follow Sportsman Class rules.

Axles: Follow Sportsman Class rules.
